The role of the Governing Body is to assist with the strategic development of the school and to ensure accountability.

They do not deal with day-to-day management issues as this is the job of the Headteacher. The Governing Body is made up of representatives from the parents, the staff, the local authority, the church and the parishes.

The governing body has two sub committees: The Education Committee and The Business Committee.

Helen Cobley (Co-Opted Governor & Chair)

Helen is is the Chair of the Governing Body andand a member of the education committee. Helen is a biologist and works for an agrochemical firm in Cambridge.  She has 2 sons, one who now goes to Melbourn Village College, her youngest son attends Barrington CofE School. Helen became a governor because she wanted to support the school to offer the best education opportunities to the children. A small school like Barrington faces many challenges but having a strong governing body, motivated staff members and an amazing body of volunteers makes a good school where children can reach their full potential.

Simon Cobby (Co-Opted Governor & Vice Chair)

Simon Cobby is is the Chair of the Governing Body  and sits on the Business Committee. He has lived in the village since 2012 and specialises in communications and media management for Cambridgeshire County Council - with a particular focus on schools and education.

He has extensive experience of being a school governor, having helped to establish the new Lantern Primary School in Ely. He served as vice-chairman of that school's governing body, with special responsibilities for child protection, finance and recruitment.

Gill Davies (Head Teacher)

Gill has been a member of staff at Barrington for over 13 years. She originally came on a two week placement and loved the school so much she stayed. Gill is also the SENDCo at Barrington school and has much experience with special educational needs. Gill's caring and understanding approach makes her a much loved by all the children.

Malcolm Price (Foundation Governor )

Malcolm a member of the Business and Education Committees.  Malcolm is currently employed as facilities manager for The Imperial War Museum - Duxford.  He has been a governor at Barrington since September 2002 and has enjoyed a close association with the school and played an active part in school life since 1994 when his son was a pupil at the school.

Simon Lake (Foundation Governor)

Simon is a member of the Business Committee. He trained as an accountant and worked for 30 years in company taxation in private practice and in industry and commerce. He has lived in Barrington for 25 years and is involved in the work of the village church.

Chriss Baynes  (Foundation Governor Ex-Officio)

Chriss has recenthly joined the Governing body and is deciding which committee to sit on.  

Date of appointment (Term of Office):  14th Sept 2016 (4 years). Appointed bt The Archdeacon.


Keith Bradley (Parent Governor)


Keith has been a resident in Barrington since 1997;   He has two children currently attending Barrington school.  Keith joined the school governing body because he is passionate about learning and the importance of this for all children in their formative years.  He was fortunate to benefit from a good education and wants to help create and maintain that environment at Barrington through the governing body of the school. Currently he works in London in the IT discipline.

Rachel Daly (Co-Opted Governor)

Rachel is a member of the Education Committee.  She attended Barrington school as a girl and now teaches Biology at Hills Road Sixth Form College.

Jane Baker (Parent Governor)

Jane has two children at Barrington school she is a Chartered Surveyor and works part time for a private surveying practice.  She moved to Barrington three years ago and became a Governor to support the school provide and maintain the level of education and supportive environment that makes the school unique and helps all children to flourish.

Sue Brown (Teacher Governor)


Sue has been teaching in Barrington school since 2003, job sharing Class One with Gill Davies. Over this period she has become the leader of the Foundation stage and part of the senior leadership team has a strong bond with Barrington school and can honestly say that in over thirty years of teaching it is the best school she haas worked in. All staff work together and every child is important and valued.

Michael Todd (Parent Governor)


Michael has lived in Shepreth for nearly 10 years and currently has 2 children at the school. He wanted to become a school governor so that he could help to continue the good work the school has been doing. He runs a family Bakery firm based in Cottenham.

Paul Evans (Local Authority Governor)
