Indigo Class

Welcome to Indigo Class's page of news.
Our wonderful year 5s are taught on Mondays and Tuesdays by Mrs Carridge, and Mrs McGregor teaches them on Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays.
If you need to contact us, our email addresses are the best way:
In English we have been looking at Kensuke's Kingdom by Michael Morpurgo and we have been imagining what it would be like to sail on a yacht like the Peggy Sue, as well as writing poems about stormy seas and being shipwrecked.
We have been impressed by the children's handwriting and have already started talking about Pen Licenses!
In Maths we have investigated Roman numerals and have been using place value to create numbers up to 100,000.
Over the next week we will be having lots of fun with our Crime and Punishment topic, as well as learning about Volcanoes and Materials. We have been having a great time designing boats in Design and Technology and we look forward to testing our designs.

Helping your child at home:
As we only have your child for less than 7 hours a day, we would encourage parents to help with key skills such as times tables facts up to 12 x 12, writing opportunities with purpose eg. shopping list, birthday cards, letters, as well as hearing your child read aloud regularly. We know that as children get older they like to read to themselves, but it really benefits their expressive voice for characters, it helps them practice how to use punctuation and it gives the parents a focal point to discuss the books that children are reading. Comprehension, inference, deduction and prediction are always skills that we will be talking about at school in reading sessions, so more practice at home would greatly be appreciated.
