3rd December 2021
This year the Ministry of Design are working to increase the range of activities available in the school playground, while the Eco-Ministry are looking at ways to encourage more wildlife into the school grounds. As a joint project they have been working to enable us to plant living willow structures in the school grounds.
During the afternoon of 3rd December, the children from these two ministries helped to plant two willow domes and two willow tunnels along the edge of the school field. We had a little help from a lovely group of parents who helped with the heavy work of removing the turf and digging the soil to prepare for the planting, so that the children were left with the fun task pf pushing the willow sticks into the soil and trying them to make the structures.
It was a long afternoon’s work but the resulting structures look great and, fingers crossed, when the willows start to grow they will provide great places to play for the children and homes for mini-beasts in the school grounds.
