3rd December 2018
Christmas is a fantastic time to be in school! We start at the very end of November with our whole school Christingle making afternoon, where the children make Christingles to take to the village Christingle service and the whole school smells of oranges.
Our reverse advent calendar and Jesse tree then start on 1st December. To encourage our children to think about others, when they are all busy thinking about their own Christmas list, we organise a reverse advent calendar and throughout December we will have a basket in the school entrance hall to collect food and Christmas items for the local families in crisis. Our aim is that between us we will be able to add something to our basket every day to help those less fortunate than ourselves to have a Christmas. The contents of the collection will be taken to the Royston food bank in time for Christmas.
Our Jesse tree is decorated during whole school collective worship. There is a decoration to hang on the tree for every day of advent; each with a picture linked to a different bible story. Together we decorate the tree, share the bible stories and count down the days until Christmas.
The excitement of Christmas really build with Christmas decoration making afternoon, when the children working in house groups, with the older children helping the younger, to make the decorations for our Christmas tree. We give the decorations time to dry and then later in the week meet in the hall as a school to sing carols and decorate the tree. We are especially grateful to the Wyevale Garden Centre for donating us our beautiful tree this year.
No school Christmas would be complete without a nativity play and this year Classes 1 and 2 worked together to perform Lights, Camel, Action a modern nativity play with all the familiar nativity characters taking part in a dance competition similar to Strictly Come Dancing!!
