Family Support Worker 

9 hours a week (days and times to be agreed) – Term-time only 

This role can be combined with additional hours as a Teaching Assistant for the right candidate 

Barrington is a growing village school with a big heart and a strong presence in the community. Our children are the focus of everything we do and we value the mental health and wellbeing of all members of the school community above everything else. This is an exciting time at the school as we prepare to open an additional class in September 2025, creating a one-form entry class structure for the first time in the school’s history. 

We are currently looking for a Family Support Worker to join our school. This is a new position, and the successful applicant will play a critical role in shaping and leading support for families in our community.  

The Family Support Worker will work closely with the Senior Leadership Team to identify children who may require additional provisions, maintain close relationships with families in the community, and deliver intervention programmes. They will be the first point of contact for families who ask for support and would also provide continuity for children and their carers. The roles will include, but not be limited to: 

  • Being a member of the safeguarding team  

  • Acting as Lead Professional, where appropriate 

  • Working with the Admin team to analyse attendance and follow up on daily absences 

  • Liaising with external professionals, including Social Care and Local Authority teams 

  • Conducting welfare checks on families 

  • Working with vulnerable children 

  • Signposting families to resources available within the community, such as charities, parenting courses, and other services 

  • Running workshops and sessions for families at school 

The salary range for this role is Scale Point 14-16 on the Higher Level Teaching Assistant Pay Scale, FTE £28,624 - £29,572, depending on experience. As we are a growing school, there is the possibility to increase hours as our pupil numbers increase.

Teaching Assistants

Barrington is a growing village school with a big heart and a strong presence in the community. Our children are the focus of everything we do and we value the mental health and wellbeing of all members of the school community above everything else. This is an exciting time at the school as we prepare to open an additional class in September 2025, creating a one-form entry class structure for the first time in the school’s history. 

Due to the rapid growth of our school, we are currently looking to appoint additional Teaching Assistants who would like to join our team. There are several positions available, and we welcome applications from candidates who are seeking both part-time and full-time working patterns. Additional hours as a lunchtime supervisor are also available. 

Our Teaching Assistants work alongside the school’s teachers to ensure the best outcomes for our pupils. The role will include working 1:1 with children who have SEND as well as supporting learning in the classroom. We welcome applications from candidates who have specific interests or skills that they can offer and are particularly interested to hear from anyone who has experience with BSL and working with children who are deaf. 

The ideal candidate would: 

  • Be fun, creative and enthusiastic.

  • Be empathetic and maintain a calm approach  

  • Be adaptable to support the growth of our school.  

  • have a Level 2 qualification in Maths and English (or equivalent); 

  • have excellent interpersonal skills; 

  • be able to work effectively within a committed team 

  • enjoy working with children; 

The salary range for this role is Scale Points 4-6 on the Teaching Assistant Pay Scale, FTE £24,404 - £25,183 depending on experience.
