What is Voluntary Controlled School?

Voluntary Controlled schools were originally set up by voluntary bodies, such as the Church of England, and have important links with these bodies. Voluntary Controlled schools are totally funded by the Local Authority (LA), which employs the staff. The LA is also responsible for admissions. The school governing body controls the use of the school premises, but have to follow general rules set by the LA. 
Recognising its historic foundation, the school aims to preserve and develop its religious character in accordance with the principles of the Church of England and in partnership with the Church at parish and diocesan level.
